APCAnother crisis is brewing within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), in Akure South Local Government Area of Ondo State, as some stakeholders within the party passed a vote of no confidence on the Committee put in place to resolve the crisis in the party.

The Party leaders under the auspices of Akure South APC Elders Forum after its meeting called on the State leadership of the party and State governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu, to intervene in the crisis before it degenerated to a full-blown crisis.

Rising from meeting in Akure, Ondo state capital, the APC Elders forum specifically alleged the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Hon. Sunday Abegunde, of fuelling the crisis in the local government.

The Elders maintained that all the issues arising from the outcome of the May 2018 Congresses still remained unsettled saying candidates for the forthcoming local government election in the State were handpicked by just one person without any consultation.

They alleged that those saddled with the responsibility of reaching to all aggrieved members of the party in the local government have not been objective in their assignment alleging the committee of being partial by reaching out to only one side

They, however, called for genuine dialogue and reconciliation with members of the party, saying there was no congress at the local government during the last congress of the party.

The Elders forum led by Hon. Akin Olokunboro, said in a communiqué issued and signed by 22 members of the forum said they were sidelined in the affairs of the party in the local government.

The communiqué read: ” that there was no congress of APC in Akure South local government, and nobody should be accord recognition as a member of the APC Executive in the local government

“That the Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC), should not recognise any list of candidates for the forthcoming local government election from Akure south local government.

“That we call on the party leadership and the governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu, to call the SSG to order and salvage the party in the local government from the further crisis”

The Elders said the call for truce became imperative in order to forge a common front and restoring the glory of the party in the local government, state and Nigeria.

However, Publicity Secretary of the APC, Alex Kalejaye, said the allegations against Abegunde is not true saying the SSG has been making effort to reconcile all aggrieved members of the party in the local government.

Kalejaye said ” though Abegunde is the leader of the party in Akure south local government but he has been working with other committed leaders in the local government to move the party forward.

“It is not only false but a calculated attempt to ridicule the SSG because he cannot sit down and write the names of the candidates for the election without the input of other members of the party in the local government.”
