The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos state has denied media report that it was wooing the State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to stand as its governorship candidate in the 2019 general elections, if the Governor is denied the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket.

Ambode’s second term bid has increasingly come under jeopardy over alleged disagreement between him and his political godfather and the national leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Ambode and two other aspirants Jide Sanwonolu and Obafemi Hamzat, last week picked the governorship nomination forms of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the September 25th APC primary in the State.

Sanwo-olu, subsequently last Sunday formerly declared his intention to contest for the party’s ticket, promising to restore the glory of the State and give special attention to the environment which had become a source of concern to Lagosians.

But some sources in the Lagos PDP who spoke to BusinessDay, disclosed that the party had several aspirants who had signified interest for its governor ticket, stressing that its had never at any point considered offering Ambode its governorship ticket.

Another sources in the party who spoke to this medium, said that party was rather keen on Femi Otedola which its leaders have met on several occasions in London, stressing that Ambode was not welcome in the party because he had failed Lagosians.

“It is not true that we are wooing Ambode, our party have not at any point said that, all this are just speculations, which are sponsored. We have some people have signified interest to contest for the Lagos PDP governor ticket and they have bought nomination forms.

“You are aware that Deji Dorherty is interested and we have also Agbaje who have also bought the nomination form and these are leaders of the party who have sacrificed a lot to where we are today”.

“Like I told you before we have also spoken with Otedola we met in London and we have met again, so we are keener on him than Ambode. Lagosian are not happy with Ambode, look at the State of the roads, the environment, what has he done in three years?

Meanwhile a chieftain of the APC in the State Fouad Oki, has threaten that his group would boycott the September 25th APC primaries in Lagos State State, over the continued refusal of the national leadership of the party to give recognition to his group which according to him was the legitimate State executive of the party.

Oki, who was is the immediate past Deputy Chairman of the APC in Lagos State and founder of Broom united Movement, alleged that the Tinubu backed Tunde Balogun led APC executive State was illegal, stressing that the State congresses which brought it into office was conducted in 57 local government areas, instead of 20 local government areas which is constitutionally recognised by the party’s guidelines and constitution of the country.

“We are not going to participate in the September 25th primaries, until the national leadership correct the anomalies going on in Lagos APC. We have said it before that the June congresses which brought in the current APC leadership in the State is illegal.

“The guideline of the party says it should be conducted in 20 local government but they went and did their in 57, while we had our in the 20 local government areas recognised by law.

“We are the authentic Lagos APC executive, the case is in court and very soon I am sure judgement would be delivered on this issue, but we would not be part of whatever they are doing”. Oki said.
