President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday met behind closed doors with leadership of the National Assembly led by Senate President, Bukola Saraki.
The meeting with 10-man senate delegation , BusinessDay gathered, was part of measures to aimed at addressing altercations between the National Assembly and the Inspector-General of Police, Ahmed Idris
Recall that despite several attempts by the National Assembly to have the IGP brief them on killings across the country, the IGP has so far shun summons to appear before the National Assembly
This is just as the Senate President Bukola Saraki has also accused the IGP of plans to implicate him and Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed over a criminal case involving some suspected cultists.
Rather than honour the invitations, the IGP said he refused to appear before the National Assembly because ” he was summoned over Dino Melaye, who is currently standing trial over allegations of involvement in gun running.
Although details of the meeting which held behind closed doors were yet to be made available as at Press time, BusinessDay gathered that the Senators used the opportunity to prevail on the President to call the IGP to order.
The delegation had included the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly matters ( Senate) Ita Enang, who was is a former Senator.
In a related development., President Muhammadu Buhari also Tuesday, continued his regular breakfast meeting with top government officials.
It was the turn of the Service Chiefs on Tuesday, including the embattled Inspector General of Police, Ahmed Idris who joined other service chiefs for the Ramadan breakfast at the Presidential Villa.
Also in attendance were some serving Minister and other top government officials.
