A Magistrates’ Court in Minna on Tuesday ordered the remand of Murtala Abdullahi in prison for receiving a stolen car.
The defendant is standing trial on a two-count charge of a joint act and receiving stolen property, to which he pleaded not guilty to.
The offence contravenes the provision of sections 79 and 317 of the penal code.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Terungwa Iornem told the court that Mukaila Danladi of Gawu Babangida in Gurara Local Government Area reported the matter at the Gawu Babangida Police Station on May 3.
Iornem said the complainant parked his Toyota Camry car beside Lambata market to do some shopping but by the time he came out of the market, the car had been stolen.
He added that when police started an investigation into the matter, one Isah Abubakar confessed to having stolen the car and handed it over to the defendant.
The prosecutor thereafter prayed the court for an adjournment to enable police to complete investigation into the matter.
In her ruling, Magistrate Sa’adatu Gambo ordered that the defendant is remanded in prison and adjourned the matter until June 4 for further mention.
