GOVERNOR Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has reiterated his regime’s total commitment to rural development, saying that all
projects embarked upon by the Community and Social Development Project (CSDP) would be given special attention with a view to alleviating the suffering of the rural dwellers in the State.

Ugwuanyi who gave the assurance while declaring open a 2-day training programme for members of Community Programme Management Committee (CPMC) held at the weekend at Toscana Hotel, Enugu, noted that rural development is one his 4-point agenda, adding that the present administration would continue to step up actions to transform the lives of the people.

The governor who was represented by the State Commissioner for Rural Development, Chief Gabriel Onuruike lauded the management of CSDP for the projects so far executed in various communities in the State, urging the participants to take the training with all seriousness.

He recalled that the team leader of the World Bank assisted the project, Professor Foluso Okunmadewa, had recently visited the state where he expressed happiness over the cordial relationship existing between World Bank and the State, stressing that every administration in the State has given due recognition to CSDP activities.

Earlier, the General Manager of the State CSDP, Dr Maximus Asogwa, explained that to achieve the project development of CSDP,
which is “to sustainably increase the access of poor people to improved social and natural infrastructure services, various

Dr Asogwa who noted that CSDP has zero-tolerance to corruption urged the participants to go home with the message, warning that funds given to communities should be used judiciously.

“There is a tremendous power in measuring performance. Monitoring and evaluation is not a new phenomenon. We monitor and evaluate projects in your various communities which are community-driven. And I am happy you all are here to hear from experts on issues concerning CSDP activities,” he added.

The Operation Manager of the CSDP, Dr Dons Eze who spoke on the general overview of CSDP, noted, “CSDP is anchored on the principles of Community Driven Development (CDD), where community members take control of their developmental needs.

“CDD recognizes the fact that indigenous people are knowledgeable, and therefore are capable of deciding what they want
and how to go about getting what they want. The CDD initiative enables community members to identify, prioritize and implement their developmental programmes,” he added.

Over 200 persons who were drawn from six local government areas of the state participated in the training exercise.
