Adetunji Oyabambi, the governorship candidate for the United Democratic Party (UDP) in Kwara State has pledged to revamp the economy of the state with the resuscitation of moribund industries if given the opportunity to govern the state come 2019.

Oyabambi made the pledge on his arrival at the Ilorin International Airport to begin political campaign ahead of 2019 general election.

He said: “My goals is to bring back all our industries back to Kwara state. Twenty-five years ago, we had industries like Tate and Lyle, Kwara textile and Okin Biscuits among others.

“But everything has folded up today. By the grace of God if we are empowered, we can bring them back”, said the UDP candidate.”

According to him, a walk through the state capital has shown that people are bedridden with high poverty, hence the need to tackle it.

He described poverty as a state of mind that affected people’s thinking about life, stating that the menace would be tackled through youth and women empowerment.

“Poverty of the mind is the worst. When your mind is not stable, you will be thinking of a lot of things. For instance, we walk through the state capital and see poverty everywhere.

“But we will try as much as possible to curb it with the youth. We will try to empower youth, traders and widows to ensure everybody has something doing”, he said.

The governorship candidate who lamented the deplorable state of infrastructures in the state, regretted that construction of a diamond underpass at Garin Alimi started more than two years ago was yet to be completed.

“Two years ago when I came home, the diamond underpass at Garin Alimi was ongoing and up till today, the project is yet to be completed.

“I met a lot of people at the rural areas asking them questions what can we do to develop this state. I talked with them; talk with my state chairman here and at the National level on how we can bring glory back to the state”, he added.

Oyabambi, however,  noted that his administration would focus on energy and water provision, improved agriculture, quality education and health care facilities among others.

In his submission,  the state chairman of the UDP, Oladele Oluseun said that the party programmes was predicated on “SHAPE” – Security, Health, Agriculture, Power and Economy.

Oluseun added that the party was about paradigm shift, assuring it would improve the standard of living of people if formed the next government in the state.
