Police arraign 9 men for alleged cultism, possession of hard drugs
By NINE men were on Wednesday brought before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly belonging to an unlawful society ‘Eiye’ confraternity and being in possession of hard drugs.
Those arraigned are; Tope Samuel, 27, Victor Chimidi, 24, Precious Kachi, 22, Emmanuel Chijioke, 21, Micheal Oluwafemi, 21, and Tobi Adebayo, 25.
Others are Micheal Adebayo, 21, Christopher Agu, 23 and Micheal Ugochukwu, 23.
The police charged the accused, who reside mostly within Bucknor, Isolo and Ejigbo, on three counts of conspiracy, belonging to an unlawful society and unlawful gathering.
Police Prosecutor Lucky Ihiehie said the accused committed the offence on Nov. 14 at 1 p.m. at Beckham Hotel Ejigbo area Lagos.
Ihiehie said policemen from the Igondo Police Division arrested the accused with exhibits following a distress call from the hotel that some cult members were doing incantation.
He said the accused and others still at large had gathered for a birthday party for one of the accused, Adebayo, who was the ringleader who initiated others.
The prosecutor alleged that the nine accused were arrested with hard drugs, bottles of codeine, Indian hemp, four sachets of Refnol tablets and some pictures of the initiation process from some of their phones.

Ihiehie said the case was transferred from the Igando Division to Anti-Cultism Unit, State CIID, Panti, Yaba, Lagos, on Nov. 15.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 42 (a), 44 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
Magistrate E. Kubeinje admitted granted the accused a bail of N50, 000 each with one surety each in like sum.
Kubeinje ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed with an evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the case until Jan 1, 2019, for mention.
