Taxpayers, Buhari

There was an uproar at the House of Representatives on Tuesday over the communication from President Muhammadu Buhari informing the lawmakers of his decision not  to ascent the Electoral Act amendment ahead of the 2019 general elections.

The Speaker, Hon Yakubu Dogara who presided the pleminay had read the President’s letter to members on his reasons to decline his ascent to the Electoral Act and a member, Hon Ali Madaki,  PDP, Kano State, raised a point order on the communication .

In his point of Order, Hon Madaki who was a former member of the All Progressives Congress, APC, said that there was an urgent for the House to debate the President’s communication because of its importance to the future of the country

However, at this point, the House leader, Hon Femi Gbajabiamila, raised another point of order while some members elected under the APC were also shouting point of order as well

Following this development, Hon Dogara allowed Hon Gbajabianila to raise his point of order.

In his submission, Hon Gbajabiamila said that the matter should be stepped down to the next legislative day in line with the rules and procedures of the House no matter how urgency it might be.

He argued that never in the history of the House had  such a letter from the President had ever been debated and that doing so would mean laying a bad precedent.

The debate was then stepped down which may likely be on the Order Paper for further legislative auction today

This is coming just as a member from Kastina State, Hon Ibrahim Murtal defected from the APC to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP

In his letter of defection read at the plenary, by the Speaker, Hon  Yakubu Dogara,  Hon Muritala said , ‘” by this letter, am now a card carrying member of PDP”.

Hon Murtal  disclosed that his movement over to the PDP would enable him to further pursue his political career
