It’s unfair to expect much from Buhari in four years ―Gujubau

GujubauA former head of department of the department of mass communication, University of Maiduguri, Professor Mohammed Gujubau has said that it was unfair to expect much from the President due to the decay he met in government.

He said expecting perfection after three years or even four years is like handling over a badly battered motorcycle to a mechanic and expecting him to repair it instantly.

Zeroing on corruption, Gujubau who spoke to the Tribune Online in Maiduguri said that he is not expecting the President Mohammed Buhari to perform magic even after his four years have been exhausted considering the mess he met on the ground.

“Let’s give it to him, some of the conduit pipes have been blocked. And for that, I will give him a pass mark especially on how he has been handling the country’s financial system. I can only blame him for not carrying other people along. At his age, he is a bit spent out so he needs other people to help him decide on any aspects of our polity.

“He may be having hitches here and there because he has not been carrying other people along. He must continue to fight corruption at all costs because that is one major index reversing our battered image abroad.

“Look at agriculture, we cannot call ourselves self-reliant while we are still importing so many things we produce. We still import salt in spite of what Dangote and others are producing. Actually, it is not easy to be self-reliant as a developing nation struggling with the agricultural sector but he is trying to lay some foundations for that.

“My final take is that the corruption fight should go down the line, not only in Abuja but in the states. Remember Professor Jega said recently that the House of Assembly is corrupt. Even at the states how many Governors have they scrutinised? Even the local government areas, how many of them have been examined?” Said Gujubau.
