THE Nigerian Army has deployed a team of specially trained policemen for military operation in the North-East.

The special squad is detailed to join the military in stabilising liberated Borno State communities of Bama, Gubio, Dikwa, Damboa and Maiduguri.

The communities were hitherto sacked and occupied by Boko Haram insurgents.

The Theatre Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole, Major-General Benson Akinroluyo, during the induction of the members of the Nigerian Police Force into the Theatre of Operation on Friday, assured the men that logistics were in place to support the team for a successful outing.

He, however, advised them to discharge their duties in line with the laid down rules, warning that there would be zero tolerance for human rights violation.

The Theatre Commander said: “It is my pleasure to congratulate you on the successful completion of your four weeks training at the Nigerian Army Special Forces School, Buni Yadi and to welcome you to Operation Lafia Dole Theatre.

“I believe you have fully imbibed the requisite training aimed at building your confidence and are now better equipped to carry out the task of stabilising liberated towns and communities to which you will be deployed. You will be conveyed to your places of primary assignment in designated towns, including Bama, Gubio, Dikwa, Damboa and Maiduguri.

“The Force Headquarters and Headquarters of Operation LAFIYA DOLE expect nothing less than professionalism from every one of you to go about your duties. I have zero tolerance for any form of human rights violation and indiscipline. You must ensure that you endear yourselves to your host communities and towns in tandem with the popular slogan: ‘Police is your friend.’”

He also urged them to cooperate with the soldiers and other security agents within the theatre.

The Nigerian troops of 112 Task Force Battalion, 22 Brigade of the Operation Lafiya Dole with some members of the civilian JTF, had bombarded some suspected insurgents in their hideouts around Gawa and Boskoro villages in Mafia Local Government Area of Borno State on Thursday.

The team reportedly killed six terrorists in the operation and recovered three pieces of 36 hand grenades, four guns and 26 rounds of anti-aircraft ammunition.

Also recovered in the operation were three gas cylinders and a set of bows and arrows with three women rescued.

In an earlier faceoff with the insurgents, the Air Task Force (ATF) of Operation Diran Mikiya destroyed another bandits’ hideout, killing several of them near Doumbourou Hill in Zamfara following human intelligence.

The bandits were said to be armed with high calibre weapons in a compound around the foot of a hill.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army has indicated its readiness to take the war against insurgents to their enclave.

This is following a directive by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant-General Tukur Buratai, that the troops of Operation Lafiya Dole should flush out remnants of the Boko Haram terrorists from their enclaves, especially around the Chibok community.

To this end, the Army recently launched a special motorbike squad for military operation to enable the troops chase the terrorists completely from their hideouts.

While receiving the motorbikes recently on behalf of the Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Abdulrahaman Bello said the initiative would go a long way in enhancing their operation.
