The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, has called for deployment of military personnel for the March 9 Governorship /House Assembly election.

Speaking with newsmen on Wednesday in Abeokuta, the Publicity Secretary of the party Caretaker Committee, Mr. Tunde Oladunjoye, submitted that the state being one of the flash points need the presence of soldiers, not at the polling units, but strategic places across the state.

Oladunjoye said the party is worried about alleged desperation on the part of the State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, who had vowed to install his preferred candidate Hon. Adekunle Akinlade of the Allied People’s Movement (APM) as his successor.

The APC publicity secretary urged President Muhammadu Buhari to disperse soldiers to the state to checkmate any form of violence during the election.

He stated that there were intelligence reports at the disposal of the party that there would be electoral violence in the state and that the party’s governorship candidate, Prince Dapo Abiodun is one of the targets.

He wondered how a police officer accompanying election result to a collation centre could be killed last Saturday evening without any arrest so far made by any security agencies.

Oladunjoye submitted that the party wrote a letter to the Office of the Inspector General of Police, asking for the setting up of an independent panel to examine and investigate rising political violence in the state.

“We are worried by the desperation of the state governor in his bid to install his preferred candidate as governor of Ogun state despite the clear signals from the last election that that project is a failed project.

“I will also wish to remind you that in the past, both our party and various leaders of our party including governorship aspirants have raised the alarm at various times on security situation in Ogun State.

“Our party also called on Inspector General of Police to set up an independent panel to examine and investigate rising political violence in Ogun state since October last year till now. It is regrettable that up till now, we have not even receive an acknowledgement of our petition and complaint from the Police.

” The President and his entourage came to town for campaign and were stoned openly in broad daylight, no single arrest has been made. We, therefore, expressed serious doubt about the ability of the present police commissioner to bring to book the killer of that Police Officer who lost his life in the cause of national duty.

“If the president can be stoned in broad daylight and no arrest was made, how are you going to pick the killers of the Police Officer who was shot to death while accompanying election result?

“We are asking the IGP not only to transfer the Police Commissioner from Ogun state for the period of this election, but to also ensure that those who killed that policeman are brought to book within the shortest period possible. And those who stoned Mr President at the stadium, should also be arrested.

“We are finally asking President Muhammadu Buhari who has said in his acceptance speech that he is going to strengthen the presence of security people, to also make sure that soldiers are dispatch to Ogun state. We are not saying they should be at polling booth, but they should be at strategic places,” the APC Publicity secretary stated.
