BREAKING: 23 trapped, 6 rescued in Ibadan collapsed building, sympathisers lament 5-hour delay

At least, 23 people whose whereabouts are still unknown are said to have been trapped in a two-storeyed building that collapsed Sogoye area in Ibadan,  Friday evening.

The sad incident happened at Sogoye area, along Idi Arere in Bode after the Molete bridge in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

According to an eye witness who spoke with Tribune Online at the site of the collapsed building, he said six people have been rescued and 23 people were confirmed trapped in the rubbles, and no help had come their way in the last five hours the tragic incident occurred.

When Tribune Online got to the scene of the collapsed building, residents who witnessed the sad development when it happened, said the building collapsed around 4:30 pm, and not 5:50 pm earlier reported.

“I can tell you that about 23 people were trapped and six people have been rescued so far.

“Some people that are still inside the rubble include a rice seller with his daughter, a kunnu (cow milk) seller and some others who were relaxing around the area before the incident occurred.

Tribune Online speaking with Mr Akin Makinde of the Oyo State Emergency Management Agency, at the site of the collapsed building, he said the incident could be blamed on the building’s developers, as he said he failed to consult with approving authorities before embarking on the project.

The said building was still under construction, and workers were still on the site when the building collapsed. No casualty has been recorded.

Security operatives have arrived the site and rescuers from Oyo State Emergency Management Agency have arrived, likewise men of the state fire services were around to arrest the situation, but we’re handicapped due to lack of required equipments to carry out the rescue operations.
