2 men docked for allegedly giving false information to Police

Two men were on Thursday arraigned before an FCT High Court, Apo, for alleged conspiracy and giving false information to the Police.

The defendants-James Edeh and Igwe Linus Nwobodo, are facing a two-count charge, bordering on conspiracy and giving false information to the Police, offences they denied committing.

The prosecutor, Mr Fred Gabriel, told the court that the defendants committed the alleged offences in January 2018.

He said that the defendants conspired and in a petition, falsely accused  Mr Uwa Nwafor, Paulina Chukwu and others.

He said the defendants in a petition dated Jan. 29, 2018 accused the above-mentioned persons of ritual activities, kidnapping and cultism knowing that the information was false.

Gabriel, further said that the defendants also gave false and misleading information to the police at the Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department (FCIID) Garki.

He said that the offences contravened Sections 97 and 178  of the Penal Code Law.

Justice Silvanus Oriji granted bail to the first defendant in the sum of N2 million, with a surety in like sum with a verifiable residential address in the FCT.

Oriji, on the other hand, granted bail to the second defendant based on self-recognition, since he is a traditional ruler.

He adjourned the case until May 20, for hearing.
