The North West Coordinator of the All Progressives Congress (APC ) New Representatives Members of the House of Representatives, Architect Ibrahim Almustapha Aliyu, has said the Forum has thrown its full weight behind the party’s endorsement of the incumbent House Leader, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, as the Speaker of the incoming 9th Assembly.

Architect Aliyu told newsmen in Sokoto on Sunday that the action of the forum was to uphold party supremacy, bolster democracy and ensure stability at the Green Chamber.

Architect Aliyu, who said the forum has no fewer than 164 members added, “we toe to the party line, We have endorsed the choice of Femi Gbajabiamila as the Speaker of the 9th Assembly.

“We are also restating our unalloyed loyalty and commitment to our great party. This, we do, also to ensure that the laudable policies and programmes of the indefatigable and incorruptible President Muhammadu Buhari sail through, in the general interests of Nigerians.”

According to him, the forum was taking advantage of its numerical strength of about 164 members, which constitute a significant number of the 360-member assembly.

Architect Aliyu added, “this is without the 67 APC returning members. This gives us a comfortable majority.

“The forum aims to prevent the ugly development of the 8th assembly, where we tended to tender on a platter of gold our reap to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), by electing persons with uncertain and unstable minds in positions of leadership.

“This virtually affects the noble objectives and policies of the APC and the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration.”

Expatiating further, Architect Aliyu averred that the forum was essentially formed to appreciate the invaluable gesture of the party for affording its members with the opportunity to run on its platform.

He explained, “having been elected and given the mandate freely by the electorate, we need to pay back. We have to remain loyal, as well as uphold the lofty ideals of the APC.”

The forum further frowned at the ongoing political intimidation and victimisation of some civil servants, traditional and religious leaders, as well as businessmen, who are perceived as being loyal to the APC.

The member-elect of the House of Representatives also chided the PDP-led Sokoto State Government for perpetrating the obnoxious trend, saying, “this is not democracy in this 21st century.

“The so-called leaders should separate politics from governance. These condemnable actions are endangering democracy. Nigerians are no longer learning.

“This is extremely regrettable and we are calling on the state government to urgently reverse the ugly trend.

“Otherwise, we will not hesitate to take the necessary steps to seek redress, at the most appropriate channels.”

Architect Aliyu further stated that the despicable actions of the state government violate the provisions of Section 4 of the 1999 Nigerian Constitution, as amended.

He submitted that the section gives the citizens the right to freely partake in politics, irrespective of their employment statuses.
