A 26-man committee has been constituted for the smooth transition of government ahead of the May 29th handing over ceremony in Ogun State.

The committee has 15-member from the side of the outgoing government led by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Taiwo Adeoluwa and 11 member committee led by the deputy governor-elect, Engr (Mrs) Noimot Salako-Oyedele.

The joint committee on Wednesday met at the conference room of the Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

Addressing newsmen after the meeting, Salako-Oyedele, expressed satisfaction on the level of preparation of the outgoing government, saying that the two sides had a robust discussion to further cement smooth transition.

The deputy governor-elect explained that both sides need to exchange information in many areas in order to hit the ground running from May 29th.

She said further that the Prince Dapo Abiodun incoming government had inaugurated economic transition committee and also put in place interface committee before constituting its inauguration committee.

“We are prepared for the transition and the meeting today (Monday) with the team of the incumbent administration of Senator Ibikunle Amosun, is to further cement smooth transition, between the incumbent government and the incoming one.

“We had a very robust discussion and we are very glad that the incumbent administration is well prepared for the transition. We have been working on this for quite a while, we are going to exchange information in the next few weeks, so that by the 28th of May when the hand over is taking place, all the things that we need, I believe, will be handed over to us. And whatever it is that we cannot see in that period, we ask from them. And with this interaction, I think we will have a seamless one.

“28th is the official hand over date, prior to that we will exchange information between the two groups. We need to get information from the government so that we can start to plan and when we get to the office on the 29th, we can hit the ground running and continue the work of government. Government is a continuum, people have to know that the government continues, they have said they would oblige us with information to be able to do our planning prior to 28th.

“The government team came to the meeting and they have briefed in what they have done to date. We have given them a list of the information we require from them and agreed on timelines for which they will exchange that information with us. Then, we have subsequent meetings to review whatever they have and we continue that on a cycle until the 21st of May, which will be our last meeting and then, that will give them a week to then wrap up and prepare their report to be handed over on the 28th of May.

“The Prince Dapo Abiodun transition is in three stages. There is an economic transition committee, which was inaugurated about two weeks ago and it is ongoing. This transition interface committee, as we call it, is the next stage. And after this, we will also release the list of our inauguration committee.

“So from our own end, there is no delay, this has followed in the sequence that we had. Perhaps, people in the public nor knowing what is going on, erroneously thought that this government was delaying us. We had a strategy and the government has worked with us whenever we needed to talk to them.”

In his remarks, Adeoluwa, said every information needed by the incoming administration would be provided, adding that programmes of both sides would be harmonised for a hitch-free transition.

The SSG said: “We are prepared and ready. And our brief from the governor is to render all assistance, all cooperation and everything that they need, they will get. The deputy governor-elect has been very sincere to tell you that they were impressed with what they meet on the ground. We have worked around for a long time. And just like she said out there, people don’t know what was happening. They had their programmes, we have our programmes and we have started to harmonise those programmes.

“In the next few days and weeks, you will see the full implementation of these programmes. Today’s meeting turned out to be what we wanted it to be. A meeting of the same family, a meeting of friends and colleagues, a meeting of people with the same purpose, that is Ogun State. And Ogun State will be the winner of it all.”
