THE Police on Friday arraigned a 39-year-old man, Ipaa Daniel, in a Karu Upper Area Court, Abuja, for allegedly recording police officers’ conversation at Karu Police Station without authorisation.

The defendant, who resides at Kugbo, Abuja, is facing a three-count charge of criminal intimidation, threat to injure a public servant and obstruction to the discharge of lawful duty.

Daniel, however, denied committing the offences.

The prosecutor, Ayotunde Adeyanju, told the court that the accused committed the offences on May 29, at about 11 a.m. at Karu, Abuja.

Adeyanju said that the accused was at the police station to solicit for the bail of his two friends who were held for allegedly committing different offences.

He said that at the station, Daniel allegedly removed his phone and recorded the officers’ conversations with the intent to injure, obstruct and intimidate the police officers.

He said that due to his actions, the police officers were obstructed from performing their legitimate duties.

Adeyanju alleged that Daniel had, during a police investigation, admitted committing the offences.

He said the offences contravened Sections 397, 153 and 149 of the Penal Code.

The judge, Sani Mohammed, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000, with one surety in like sum.

Mohammed ordered that the surety must be a  civil servant on level 15.

He adjourned the case until July 3, for hearing.
