Need to legalise marijuana in Nigeria

SERIES of thought-provoking articles have appeared in the media calling on the Federal Government to legalise Indian hemp, many of these comments suggested very good reasons why hemp should be legalised while a few others proposed that as a result of its negative implications and moral as well as religious considerations, government should not give any legal backing to Indian hemp.

However, I think that whether it is legalized or not irrespective of whatever moral or religious implication it generates, it is actively in practice in Nigeria at the moment, albeit,  illegally. This is why I want to proffer reasons why it is important to legalise hemp in Nigeria.

All over the world, marijuana has generated so much controversy as a result of its medical uses. The moralists in Nigeria hold that legalizing it will encourage immorality among the youths but I believe it is important for Nigeria to overlook personal tendencies and set our society on the right track by legalizing hemp.
