The National Council of Muslim Youths Organization (NACOMYO, Ogun State chapter, has commended President Muhammadu, for recognizing June 12 as Democracy Day in the country against May 29.

This was contained in a released made available to the Nigerian Tribune in Abeokuta, on Monday, signed by the State Organising Secretary of NACOMYO, Alhaji Abdulrahaman Oluoyeneye, that the conferment of the Grand Commander of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (GCFR), was an honour long overdue.

The body advised various institutions concerned to revalidate June 12 in good memories for the sake of those Nigerians who lost their lives in the struggle.

The release read, “The genuine will and courage of Mr President to confer GCFR; the second highest national honour on late Abiola has rekindled the hope of better Nigeria in the minds of all the citizens.

“Though, very long overdue, that the immediate beneficiary of the supreme sacrifice paid by the 20th Century African greatest philanthropist of international repute, late Chief M. K. O. Abiola failed to accord June 12 its rightful place in the political history of Nigeria has been a fatal robbery to democracy.

“It is incontrovertible, a fact that Abiola till death remained not only a generalissimo but a humanitarian, philanthropist whose enormous wealth touched almost every facet of the Nigeria society, his contributions to education, economy and politics shall ever remain elephantine hence inexpungable.”

The organisation, therefore, called on all political players in the country to imbibe the philosophy of M. K. O. Abiola in delivering dividends of democracy to all Nigerians whom they claim to represent, adding that the leadership by example of President Buhari should be emulated by all.”
