No shots on target from Nigeria the statistics at half-time during Croatia’s game with Nigeria reflected an opening 45 minutes.
Croatia defeated Nigeria 2- 0 in a game where all statistics showed Nigeria lack the dexterity to compete effectively at the tournament.
The Eagles lacks team cohesion in the midfield and where losing ball possessions too quickly to the Croatians. The lack of creativity in Nigeria team especially in the attack and midfield made Ighalo to be running round the field and not getting the balls from the midfielders as the Team Captain John Mikel Obi kept on passing the ball backwards.
Alhaji Aminu Balele Kurfi, the Executive Chairman of Katsina United in his reaction said he was disappointed at Super Eagles poor performance on the night.
“In 90 minute, no shot on goal from a striker, we do not have a team. The coach has displayed to Nigerians that he lacks the technical competence to coach the team,” said while expressing his anger after the game.
He further threatened to check out of his hotel back to Nigeria.
“The coach is rigid and wants to employ an assistance at the last hours before the World Cup and up till now, we are still experimenting, does he think Nigerians are stupid; am checking out of my hotel to Nigeria today. I have something more important to do and it’s better for me to go back to Nigeria rather than stay here and watch Nigeria.
Another fan in reacting to Nigeria’s loss said, Super Eagles technical adviser Gernoth Rohr lacks technical depth to lead the team.
“The team played so badly and as you can see in the entire game, Gernoth Rohr lacks the technical knowledge, honestly speaking this is not a team.
“How can Mikel Obi who has played in the defensive position for over ten years at club level and you want him to play an attacking midfielder in the national team, for me that is a tactical error from the coach.
He further expressed fear for Nigeria progressing from the Group with Argentina and Iceland games to play.
“How can Nigeria defeat Argentina that plays aggressive attacking football with star players like Lionel Messi, Kun Aguero, Angel Di Maria, this is my fear for the team?
“Can you tell me in a country with over 180 million in population and this is the best players we have for the World Cup?
Super Eagles had trouble creating chances upfront and made costly mistakes. The game also revealed that Super Eagles lack imagination and will now need a victory against Iceland on June 22 in Volgograd to avoid an early exit from the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
