The battle against the COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria took a new twist on Friday, as the nation sought divine intervention to defeat the coronavirus.

Nigeria currently has over 27,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and a little over 138,000 samples have been tested in five months.

Consequently, the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 on Thursday announced the directives of the Nigeria Inter-religious Council (NIREC), for a three day national fasting and prayer session.

In accordance with the directives, Islamic faithful on Friday, gathered to offer special prayers at the National Mosque in Abuja.

Dignitaries, including the minister of the Federal Capital Territory and some members of the presidential task force on COVID-19 were in attendance.
