Mallam Adamu Adamu,
Minister of Education

THE Federal Government has applauded the leadership of the Nigerian Academy of Education for the role it plays in the development of educational policies in the country.

Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, gave this commendation when he received members of the Academy in his office, in Abuja.

He underscored the importance of the academy in the promotion of excellence in the Nigerian education sector, particularly in the area of research and empirical studies, as well as the promotion of ethics in the teaching profession, adding that government would continue to support the academy to advance the cause of education in Nigeria.

The minister stated that the academy, founded in 1985 as a professional body, had made immense contributions in the formation of various policies in the Nigerian education sector.

He pledged the Federal government’s support to the academy for the forth-coming West African Education Conference to be held in Abuja in October this year.

Also speaking, the permanent secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Mr Sonny Echono, said that a desk officer would be assigned in the ministry to liaise with the academy to ensure a successful hosting of the conference.

Mr Echono emphasised the need for close collaboration between the academy and the ministry for effective projection of its various programmes and activities.

The President, Nigerian Academy of Education, Prof. Elizabeth Eke, had earlier said that members of the Academy were on a visit to the ministry to acquaint the minister with the activities of the Academy, particularly on arrangements for the conference to be hosted by Nigeria.

Prof. Eke said that the conference would afford the country an opportunity to showcase its success story in the development of education, and further disclosed that the Academy would also be inaugurated in the other West African countries, including Sierra-Leone.

She pledged the continuous support of the Academy to the advancement of education in the country.
