ajimobi, securityThe flyover was constructed during his first four years in office as the Executive Governor of Oyo State,  which was marked with criticism either for one reason or the other by vested interests which was nothing short political gain.

The construction was meant purely to save lives and ensure free flow of traffic. If the flyover were to be in the United Kingdom, it would be one of the many tourist attractions where the old and young would be taking photograph as postcard to friends and relatives abroad, they cherish progress and development.

Going through the length of the flyover, it is a sign of more good things coming to the ancient city of Ibadan. I solemnly believe the construction will stand the test of time in view of my experience at the Ministry of Public Works and Building at Grey Coat in London for Civil and Highway Engineering Works.

However, the flyover bridge were refuse dumps and beggars of all ages using the bridge as their sanctuary. All the illuminating light under the flyover are either removed or completely vandalised, while a portion of same serves as football field for the young ones.

During the commissioning of the flyover for the use of the public, it was greeted with applause for the architectural design and construction, and for the beautification of this strategic area of the city.

But today, under the flyover bridge stands a shadow of its own.

The concrete wall of the bridge have been defaced with advertisements, which should not be so.

Considering some of Ajimobi’s other projects which include following:

The Agodi Gate Garden as tourist attraction, situated close to the seat of government; the Alesinloye Road to Eleyele; the reconstruction of Orita-Meta Road; Challenge to Lagos Express Road; roundabout projects Street light etc.

All these projects are the requirements for a developing nation.

On reflection, the city of Ibadan should count itself to be lucky to have all the above mentioned faCilities/infrastructure put in place for the generation coming to see and emulate further for future aggressive development

O. Babalola,

Ibadan
