Kaduna APC Kicks Against Lifting Of Shehu Sani’s Suspension

The Kaduna State chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has kicked against the lifting of the suspension of the senator representing Kaduna Central District in the National Assembly, Shehu Sani, by the National Working Committee of the party.

In a statement signed by its Acting Publicity Secretary, Salisu Wusono, on Sunday, the party insisted that Senator Sani’s indefinite suspension from the Kaduna chapter was done in line with its constitution.

It noted that since 2015, he had engaged in unremitting hostility to the APC, joining the gang-up against the party in the Senate, and making utterances in which he ridiculed President Muhammadu Buhari and the party at the national level.

The statement read in part: “Article 21A (i-xi) of the APC Constitution lists offences for which a member is liable to disciplinary action.

“Shehu Sani has violated several of these, before and since his suspension. We are not a party of anything goes! Shehu Sani is on indefinite suspension from the APC.

“The process for his suspension was initiated in December 2015 by the Party Executive in Ward 6, Kaduna South Local Government, which suspended him for 11 months.

“Shehu Sani’s indiscipline, his disrespect for the APC, and the whole notion of party spirit persisted during the first suspension, therefore, it was extended to an indefinite suspension, with the endorsement of the State Executive Committee of the party”.

It further said that the Constitution of the party does not bestow any powers on the national headquarters to quash the decisions of the Ward, Local Government and State Executive of the party.

The Kaduna APC, therefore, called on the party’s national headquarters to uphold party spirit, respect its Constitution and avoid the appearance of taking loyal party members for granted or treating traitors as heroes.

The Chairman of the Tudun-Wada ward, Ibrahim Salisu Togo,  had announced senator Sani’s suspension in a statement dated July 31, 2018.

But in a statement on Sunday by its Acting National Publicity Secretary, Yekini Nabena, the national leadership of the party lifted the suspension and confirmed the senator Sani as a “bonafide member and leader” of the party.
