THE protest against the killings of members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), also known as the Shi’ites and the continued detention of Mallam Ibraheem El Zakzaky took another dimension as members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) hit the streets of Abuja.

The protesters under the auspices of Concerned Corps Members during the protest, demanded for the release of the leader of the IMN Sheikh El Zakzaky and his wife, and also put to an end the continued killings of the members of IMN.

In a statement signed by the Coordinator of the Concerned Corps Members, Sulaiman Alhassan, it reads, “I write to inform the public that Mustapha Ingawa is part of the people killed by the Guards Brigade and Nigerian Police on 27 to 30 October, 2018 in Abuja during 2018 Arbaeen Symbolic. Mustapha Ingawa, is a graduate of B. Sc. Business Administration and until his passing-away, he is doing his national youth service through National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme. Mustapha Ingawa was arrested alive and tortured to death by the Military and Police. His corpse has no sign of gun-shot. He passed away and left behind his 2 year old son and wife.

“We condemned the killing of Mustapha Ingawa and request the National Human Right Commission to take an action seeking redress for this atrocity and also protect the right of Nigerians that are protesting against injustice and violation of human right.

“It is pertinent to state that hundreds of NYSC Corps members who are followers and sympathizers of Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky (H) are serving in various capacities under NYSC scheme. Some of us are teaching and serving in various schools including institutions owned by the Military. While we are busy doing our best in teaching their children and serving in various capacity, the Nigerian Military and Police are busy killing our colleagues.

“In three (3) different attacks on Arbaeen in Abuja, the Military and Nigerian Police killed more than 50 brothers and sisters including underage. The Military used guns and ammunitions that were not supposed to be used in public gathering and attacked the protesters without using any alternative means of dispersing the gathering.

“We consider protest as our right and all people of conscious and conscience are aware that the right of Sheikh Zakzaky has been violated. Therefore, from today, Thursday 31 January, 2019 the Concerned NYSC Corps members resolved that we will continue to participate in Free Zakzaky protest and demand for unconditional release of our leader Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky (H).

“While mourning the passing away of our colleague Mustapha Ingawa we are demanding for the end of illegal protective custody and kangaroo Kaduna court case against our leader Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky and his wife”.
