Spain and Real Madrid defender, Sergio Ramos, has disclosed that he will not quit from international football and will be at the Qatar 2022 World Cup – even if he has a grey beard.

Spain exited the 2018 edition of the tournament on Sunday courtesy of a penalty shoot-out defeat against unfancied hosts Russia after being held to a 1-1 draw over 120 minutes.

Meanwhile, veteran midfielder Andres Iniesta announced he would be leaving the national team after the defeat.

But Ramos, who helped Real Madrid to the Champions League this season, insisted he will be in Qatar in four years time, when he will be 36-years-old.

“It’s difficult,’ Ramos said. ‘It’s so many hours, so much effort and so much dedication.

“Maybe this wasn’t our best moment but we go home without having lost a game.

“I would like to carry on playing [for Spain] for many more years because I’m going home with a terrible pain.

“I’m going to have to go to Qatar with a grey beard if necessary.”

Ramos added in a tweet: “It hurts a lot but nobody should doubt that we’ll be back to try again and again.

“Some will go and others will come along but we’ll all defend this shirt with passion and respect. In defeat I feel even more proud of being Spanish.”

The 32-year-old defender has played 156 times for Spain, which is an outfield record for him.
