Rivers, APCCHAIRMAN of Akuku-Toru Local Government Area in Rivers State, Mr Rowland Sekibo, has assured that equal opportunity will be given to members the All Progressives Congress (APC) who recently defected into the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the council area.

He gave the assurance while receiving hundreds of the defectors in Abomenna, the headquarters of the local government area and urged old PDP members in the area to accept and work with the new members.

“I want to give God thanks for this defection. We may not have the likes of Senate President Bukola Saraki and Governor AminuTambuwal, but the people that returned today are a prove that APC is dead in Akuku-Toru Local Government Area.

“Every promise made by the APC-led Federal Government have been unfulfilled. They promised to recover our oil well from Bayelsa. But till now, it is not even on the table of discussion. I want to thank you for this vision and I promise that you will be given equal opportunity in PDP,” he said.

Speaking earlier, the defectors, led by Messrs Ben Whyte and Soky Don-Pedro, said they were tired of the unfulfilled promises made to them by the APC.

They also said they have always admired the love and care PDP showed to members of the party, especially at the grassroots and promised that they will do their best in canvassing support for the ruling party in the state.

Mr Whyte, who led the defectors from Ward 10 of the local government area, said “when we were deceived to join APC, they promised they would change the country for the better. But today what we see is the opposite.

“Governor Nyesom Wike was once a minister in Nigeria but gave appointment and employment to youths in the state.

“Today, we have a serving minister from APC who has refused to listen to us or give jobs to our people. It is better we believe in the PDP which we know will give us love and care.”

Also speaking, Mr Don-Pedro said, “I have returned to my home where I will be given the due respect and the privilege to work. I know I will be accepted and loved by my family. APC did not keep to its promises. So, there is nothing that will make me return them who treated me badly.”
