PTAD pays over N21bn to pensioners in second quarter

PTADThe Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD), has paid over N21.109 billion as a monthly pension payments for the second quarter (Q2),2018 to retirees of Nigerian Customs, Immigration, the Police, Civil Service and other government parastatals.
Also, PTAD says it will place 917 NICON Insurance Pensioners on its Monthly Pension payroll this September 2018 and at the end of October 2018, PTAD will enroll 9,216 NITEL Pensioners on Monthly Pension Payroll.

In its  Monthly Pension Payments for the second Quarter of 2018, released Monday, the agency stated that in April 2018, made pension payments of ₦619,958,231.69 to 11,961 
pensioners, N619, 271,831.19  to 11,951 pensioners in May 2018 while N619, 058,170.71 pension payments was made to 11,947 pensioners in June, all to the Customs, Immigration and Prisons pensions department.
For the Police pension department, PTAD said it made pension payments of ₦557, 768,863.37 to 16,047
Pensioners in April, ₦558,012,431.28 was made to 16,055 pensioners in May and ₦557,826,593.54 pension payments made to 16,033 pensioners in June 2018.
According to PTAD, in April 2018, pension payments worth ₦1,864,267,573.82 was made to 103,457 Civil Service pensioners and 219 Retired Permanent Secretaries and Head of Service (HOS). In May, pension payments of ₦1,797,813,284.40 was made to 95,521 Civil 
Service pensioners and 219 Retired Perm Secs and HOS, while in June 2018, pension payments of ₦1,804,578,079.41 was made to 95,817 Civil
Service Pensioners and 219 Retired Perm Secs and HOS, all in the department of Civil Service.
In the parastatals department, the directorate said it made pension payments of ₦4,016,484,958.54 to 98,148 Pensioners in April and in May 2018, pension payments of ₦4,016,198,042.31 and arrears payment of ₦40,022,024.60 was made to 97,751 pensioners.
 In June 2018, PTAD also made pension payments of ₦4,006,974,903.32 and arrears payment of N31, 517,623.14 to 97,512 pensioners.
Meanwhile, more than 15 years after the liquidation of Nigeria Airways Limited, President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the immediate release of N22.68 billion for settlement of the retirement benefits of ex-workers of the defunct airline.
The supervisory minister of finance, Zainab Ahmed, announced on Monday that the president also approved the release of another N20 billion as ‘revitalisation’ fund of public universities based on  the request by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
The Nigeria Union of Pensioners had earlier threatened to shut the airspace over non payment of pension arrears to pensioners of the defunct Nigeria Airways. To this,  the Executive Secretary of PTAD, Barrister Sharon Ikeazor, appealed for calm for as arragements were in top gear to pay the pension dues.
