Reward

REWARDS and staff motivation have been described as the best ways of getting efficient and quality service delivery devoid of competition and rancour among the staff in any organisation.

This was disclosed by the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi Dr Mohammed Alkali during the 2018 End of the Year Award held on Thursday.

The CMD stated that when staff are rewarded for their hard works they will be motivated to do more in their service delivery while others will be challenged to do better, a development he said will, in turn, promote healthy and efficient service delivery.

Mohammed Alkali added that the health sector requires efficient and well-motivated staff considering the fact that their services are the most important in the society because according to him it is a 24 hours service that is the bedrock of the society.

The Chief Medical Director also stated that the benefits of teaching hospitals in the society are enormous ‘as they render better medical services to patients’ than other health facilities.

Mohammed Alkali who enumerated some of the challenges faced by the hospital to include unfavourable government’s policies, energy, infrastructural support and upgrade of equipment advocated funding for overhead to take care of utilities, incentives to staff and computerisation of operations as some of the solutions to problems of the hospital.

While congratulating all the award recipients for the year 2018, the CMD challenged others to do better in the coming year in order to be the next award recipients assuring that the management of ATBUTH will ensure that the event was expanded next time.

He then assured that during the 10th year anniversary of the hospital next year, more hardworking and dedicated staff in all categories will be recognised and rewarded.

In his remarks at the occasion, the Vice Chancellor of ATBU, Professor Saminu Ibrahim commended the management of ATBUTH for organizing the award ceremony which he said will go a long way to further motivate the staff to do more in the coming years.

The VC added that going by the various categories of the awards presented, he is convinced that the hospital through a tertiary institution will remain committed to efficient service delivery in the health sector challenging the recipients to see it as a call to more dedication and commitment to duty.

Professor Saminu Abdulrahman Ibrahim then lauded the hospital for the partnership to establish the College of Medical Sciences in the University by using the hospital for practicals

In his remarks, Secretary of the Clinical Activities Coordinating Committee, Abdulrazak Toyin explained that the annual awards were aimed at boosting staff morale and enhancing productivity in the hospital.

He noted that 30 awards and prizes were presented to beneficiaries for punctuality, hard work and dedication to duty.

The award recipients went away with various items including refrigerators, pressing irons, gas cookers, plagues and certificates of recognition.
