THE crisis rocking the apex Yoruba cultural organisation, Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE) took another dimension, as the Ondo chapter of the group refuted the claim of the Secretary-General of the group, Dr Kunle Olajide, dismissing the leadership of Col. Samuel Agbede.

This was contained in a statement signed by the state Chairman of the group, Anthony Meraiyebu and the General Secretary, Mr Festus Akinyele, condemning the submission of Olajide, describing it as fallacy and distortion of facts.

According to the duo, the group unanimously appointed Agbede as the interim President following the death of the immediate president of YCE, Chief Idowu Sofola.

The statement read that “to state clearly for the entire members worldwide, all members were in the National Executive meeting at YCE National Headquarters at Ibadan where Agbede was unanimously appointed ted as the interim President of YCE.

“This was as a result of the demise of our immediate past President General late Chief Idowu Sofola.”

Akinyele said Agbede was able to reposition and transformed the group within a short period which subsequently led to his confirmation as the President General of the YCE.

“During the short period of Agbede as the interim President, he transformed the YCE headquarters secretariat to an enviable and presentable outlook. He supplied all the necessary facilities required in the offices.

“As a result of his performances since March 23, 2018, Agbede was confirmed as the President General of YCE by the elders above 80 years of age on the 29th of August, 2018.

“Those present at the meeting included Prof. Tunde Oluwasanmi, Barrister Akinremi, Prof Mrs Adetoun Ogunsheye, Chief Ajibade Oyekan just to mention a few members.”

Akinyeke, however, said “for Olajide to turn around to say that Agbede was appointed in error is a fallacy” and maintained that Agbede Presidency was confirmed against Olajide submission.

Olajide had earlier dismissed the presidency of Agbede as illegitimate describing him as very ambitious whose leadership is unacceptable to the members of the council.

Col Agbede became president of the council following the demise of Chief Idowu Sofolahan (SAN) in March 2018.
