Police arrest Rep Abdulmumin Jibrin over alleged involvement in Kano violent clash

The Kano Police Command on Friday, arrested Hon Abdulmumini Jibrin-Kofa, representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency, in the House of Assembly, over Thursday’s clash between supporters of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and those of All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

The police said Jibrin’s arrest was over his alleged involvement in the Thursday’s political violence which resulted in the death of at least two people in Kofa town in Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency of Kano State.

Abdullahi Haruna, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Kano Police Command, , confirmed the arrest.

According to the Police, Jubril’s arrest came after the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 1, Dan Bature, to Kofa, visited the place where the violence occurred between APC and PDP supporters.

The party PDP supporters, it was alleged were those backing Jibrin and Senator Rabi’u Kwankwaso, a PDP leader in Kano State.

According to reports, the violent attack occurred when Kwankwaso was on his way to a campaign rally in Kofa, in company of the PDP state’s governorship candidate, Abba Yusuf, when Jubrin supporters allegedly attempted to stop them from entering the area, a development which was said led to the melee that ensured later resulted in the deaths of at least two and left many others injured.

Police however, said investigations were still ongoing to ascertain the involvement of Kwankwaso in the incident.
