The Oodua People’s Congress (Reformed) popularly known as OPC (R) worldwide has warned people from all tribes trying to incite violence ahead of the governorship elections on Saturday, March 9, to watch their utterances
as the group will fight against any individual or tribe that wants to destabilise the peace in Yoruba states especially on the day of the
election.
The president of the group, Ambassador Dare Adesope, on Tuesday, stated that his group will resist any attempt by any group or persons to
disrupt the governorship election in Yoruba states, adding that members of his group will be at polling booths across states to curb violence.
“The presidential election is over and we are looking forward to the gubernatorial election now. We have decided to stand up to the task
and protect our states by ensuring that the forthcoming election is violence free. Any group that is planning to disrupt the gubernatorial
election should have a rethink because OPC (R) is prepared to resist such an act with our last blood.
“Heavy presence of our members will be adequately felt in all polling booths across the southwest, so by virtue  of this, we are imploring
every registered voter to come out and exercise their franchise without fear of attack from any quarters,” he stated.
According to him, the group is aware of the trending issue between the Yoruba  and some tribes which is taking a new dimension, adding that, “what started like play is now a different ball game as several groups belonging to such tribes spit fire both on print and social media.”
“Asari Dokubo and others should mind their choice of words because it is clear that Yoruba are not enjoying the privilege we give to the
Igbos and other tribes in their land. “And to all Igbo groups or persons threatening to attack Yoruba, I am sounding a strong warning that they should give it a second thought because we are ready to defend our people.
“They should know that the gentility of a tiger is not an act of cowardice and to be forewarned is to be forearmed. It is known to all that the Yorubas are the only tribe that believe most in one Nigeria because we welcome every tribe
in our lands.
“We allow them to transact their business without fear; we even provide adequate security for them, so why will they turn against our will.
“We shall continue to welcome other tribes provided they realise we have tradition and that tradition includes royalty which is one of the reasons that automatically erase Lagos as not a “No man’s land,’ he stated.
