Thirty-four political parties under the aegis of Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), Lagos State chapter on Wednesday adopted the governorship candidate of Action Democratic Party (ADP), Mr. Babatunde Gbadamosi, as their consensus candidate for the election holding this Saturday, urging all their members, supporters as well as eligible voters in the state to vote for him.
CUPP made this known at a press conference addressed by its secretary general, Oloye Gboyega Adeniji and attended by the ADP governorship candidate himself, Mr.  Gbadamosi and other officers of the coalition, including Mrs. Funke Balogun, Elder Mowce Anyanwu, among others.
Adeniyi said the coalition took the step in appreciation of the fear raised by the outcome of the presidential election for the future unity and well-being of the nation under the present crop of leaders at the helm of affairs, declaring that CUPP was convinced that Gbadamosi’s passion to make Lagos achieve her potential was second to none.
Besides, he said the CUPP was satisfied that the ADP governorship candidate’s “manifesto is as forward looking as it is practical and realistic.”
“The outcome of the 2019 presidential election last month has further confirmed the fears of Nigerians For the future unity and well-being of the nation under the present crop of leaders.
“In appreciation of these fears, 34 political parties under the CUPP met and agreed to pull resources together to ensure a break from the past 20years,” he said.
“To this end, we members of the CUPP in Lagos State have determined to endorse Mr. Babatunde Olalere Gbadamosi of the African Democratic Party (ADP) as our consensus governorship candidate of Lagos State for the 2019 elections.
“We are convinced that his passion to make Lagos State achieve her potential is second to none. His manifesto is as forward looking as it is practical and realistic,” Adeniji said.
“Moreover, his election shall make him the first indigenous governor of the state in the past 20years. We, therefore, urge every well-meaning eligible voter in Lagos State to vote the ADP candidate, Babatunde Olalere Gbadamosi (BOG) as the next executive governor of Lagos State,” he added.
Reacting to the endorsement, Gbadamosi expressed his appreciation for the gesture, lamenting that Lagos had been in comatose for the past years and, therefore, the urgent need for change like it happened in developed countries of the world.
He expressed the belief that come this Saturday, Lagosians would decide with their votes to make sure that a stop was put to the rot that had been in place, declaring: “That will have to stop this Saturday as Lagosians go out and vote, I hope.”
