Senate President Bukola Saraki, is no longer be required to visit any Police station to defend himself against his alleged link with suspects in the Offa robbery incidence, which killed over 40 persons in April.

The nation’s Number Three Citizen, is, however required to put his defence in writing to the Police headquarters within the next two days.

The latest development was contained in a tweet by Saraki on his Twitter handle @bukolasaraki on Monday where he revealed that “Following my earlier tweet, I have received the letter from @PoliceNG. They are no longer asking me to report at any station, but to respond in writing to the allegations within 48 hours”.

In readiness to honour the invitation of the Police to clear his name, Saraki, had sent his police Aide De Camp (ADC), Superintendent of Police Usman Dungunza, to pick up an invitation letter from the Police to allow him tell his side of the story.

In an earlier tweet, Saraki stated: “I have just informed my ADC to get the letter of invitation from @PoliceNG in respect of the allegations raised yesterday so that I can immediately honour the alleged invitation”.

It was learnt that the U-turn by the Police was due to pressure from the international community and outcry by some Nigerians.

It was also gathered that before the Police latest decision, some lawmakers had begun serious mobilisation to follow Saraki to the Police station on Tuesday.

A lawmaker disclosed that over 60 senators had already signed to be in the entourage.

Also, part of the plan was to shut down the Senate for as long as the Senate President would be with the Police.
