As part of its commitment to human capital development to deepening reportage of the tourism sector, the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR) has scheduled a four day training programme for the Nigeria tourism media under the auspices of the Association of Nigerian Journalists and Writers of Tourism (ANJET).

In a statement by the Acting Director General of NIHOTOUR, Alhaji Kabir Momoh, the training session is scheduled to hold between April 8 and 11 at the Kapital Klub and Apartments, Asokoro, Abuja.

He said the title for this year’s training programme is ‘Tourism Journalism Communication Training 2019, with the theme: Building a Sustainable Destination through Tourism Reportage.

Training, he said is one of the core mandates of the institute, as it has over the years developed teaching modules and training packages for the different operators of tourism businesses in Nigeria even as he stressed the need to train travel journalists on a regular basis so as to expose them to developments in the sector and skills that would enhance their reportage of the sector.

According to him, ANJET members are part of the tourism family and are crucial to the developments and achievements that the sector has recorded over the years.

He said that the decision by NIHOTOUR and other partners to commitment human capital and resources to organising the training section is to consolidate on these gains and ensure the sustainability of the sector as without a well informed and equipped crop of tourism media that the sector stands to suffer a lot.

To this end, he commended the Director-Generals of the National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC), Chief Segun Runsewe and the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC), Folorunsho Folarin – Coker and other partners for collaborating with NIHOTOUR to deliver on the training programme for this year.

The formal opening ceremony of the programme is bill to hold on April 8, with a keynote address to be delivered on the theme, with the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, as special guest of honour. Other special guests include the chairmen and members of culture and tourism committees in the Senate and House of Representatives as well as members of the Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria (FTAN).
