Democracy Day Daughter of hero of democracy, Hafsat Abiola Costello, has been ecstatic since the declaration of June 12 as Democracy Day by President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday evening.

Abiola Castello wrote on her Facebook wall a poem of how her hopes were raised and shattered when the military handed over to civilian in 1999, saying the choice of May 29, which was picked from thin air shattered the labours of recognising June 12 as a Democracy Day.

Twenty-five years after, Buhari gave an executive order to identify with June 12 and declared MKO Abiola should be given the highest award of GCFR, his deputy and freedom fighter Babagana Kingibe and Gani Fawehinmi should be awarded with GCON respectively.

“Dear friends, words cannot truly express how happy I feel. Here is President Buhari’s executive order declaring that June 12, the day of the election that my father won, would henceforth be Nigeria’s Democracy Day and conferring on my dad the title of Grand Commander of the Federal Republic, a title reserved for presidents. Twenty five years after June 12…
