In its determination to boost efficiency in the discharge of their professional duties and discharge of constitutional mandate, the Nigerian Army has reiterated its commitment to building leadership capacity and organizational abilities of its rank and file.

The assurance was given by the General Commanding Officer (GOC) Division 3, Jos, Major General NE Angbazo, on Friday, during the closing ceremony of the 3 Division Inter Brigade Corporal and below competition held at the Shadawanka Barracks Bauchi State.

General Angbazo, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Brigadier General M. Danmadanmi, said that the 3 Division Inter Brigade competition, was one of the avenues the army was using to nurture responsible leaders and efficient administrators within the rank and file of the army.

The GOC said: “In line with the Chief of Army Staff vision, which is to have a professionally responsive Nigerian Army in discharge of its constitutional role, this competition sort to train junior leaders’ corporal and below with the aim of improving their leadership traits, organizational ability and inculcate initiatives in them”

He expressed optimism that the goals and objective of introducing the annual Inter Brigade competition by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai, has been achieved.

“I hope that this competition has inspired you all, and challenged you in the spirit of comradeship and sportsmanship. This historic day seemed unrealistic some time ago but today we have achieved the long aspiration for the soldiers who are born leaders to realize their potentials and become assets to the organization”, the GOC stressed.

The GOC then used the event to thank the out-going governor of Bauchi State, Mohammed Abubakar for the unflinching support he rendered to the military during his four years in charge of the helm of affairs.

He also commended traditional and religious leaders as well as sister security agencies in the state for the harmonious working relationship with the army and urged them to sustain the tempo.

Four Brigades under the 3 Division- namely 33 Artillery Brigade Bauchi (the host), 3 Division Garrison, 43 Engineer Brigade and 55 Sigs Brigade, participated in the five days competition which featured events such as map reading, swimming, drilling, weapon handling and live firing, with 33 Artillery Bauchi emerging the overall winner with five trophies.
