Two people charged with fraud were on Thursday remanded in Ilesa prison by a Federal High Court in Osun.

The defendants, Omojua Olusola, 28 and Ogundele Ademola, 41, are facing a two-count charge of fraud and conspiracy.

They were said to have conspired with others now at large to defraud one Uyi Osagiede of N34.5 million.

They pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The defence counsel, Mr Taofeeq Babalola, prayed the court to grant bail to his client in the most liberal terms.

The Judge, Justice Peter Lifu, granted bail to the defendants in the sum of N5 million each, with two sureties in like sum.

He, however, ordered that they should be remanded in prison until their bail conditions were met.

Lifu directed that the sureties must provide evidence of tax payments and two passport photographs, with an affidavit of means.

The Judge added that one of the sureties must possess land Certificate of Ownership, while the other surety must be a civil servant on Grade Level 14 and must have a landed property in the state.

The Prosecutor, Mr Felix Okafor, had told the court that the defendants committed the offence on April 15 at Ilesa, Osun.

Okafor said the accused conspired between themselves with others now at large, under false pretence to sell three-kilogramme Gold of 23.5 Karats to Osagiede, and defrauded her in the process.

He said that the complainant had been on the heels of the defendants before they were apprehended.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened section 1(1)(a)(3) and section 1(1)(c), punishable under section 1(3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and other Related Offenses, 2006.

The judge adjourned the case to June 25.
