Insecurity: Nigerian Diaspora Foundation advises Buhari on rebuilding Nigeria

federalism, Buhari

The Nigerian Diaspora Foundation (NDF), has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to work for the common good of the populace and “create a country where we can truly call home.”

The Global Executive Director of NDF, a non-governmental and non-political coalition of Nigerians from all walks of life with the determination to collaboratively rebuild Nigeria, Dr. Kayode Elusoji, gave this advice while reacting to the second term swearing in ceremony of the President Buhari at the organisation’s head office in Chicago, United States.

According to Elusoji, “the President had an opportunity that prove to Nigerian that he genuinely loves this country and that obvious deficiencies in the area of security, power supply, health and education during his first term in office would be promptly addressed.”

He said that NDF independently monitored the 2019 election process through the “electioneye.org” platform, which he said enabled the organisation to collate real-time situation and performance data in the form of videos, picture, messages and reports from different locations across the nation on the election days.

The analysis of the collated data, which Elusoji, in a release said was confirmed by the Coalition for Credible Election (CCE), an interest group of NDF, said there was no departure from the status quo, adding that “the Nigerian electoral system still requires significant improvement to deliver globally acceptable standard of performance.”

He lamented that many lives were lost, and that cases of ballot snatching, vote buying, thuggery and intimidation occurred, contending that “the two leading political parties, engaged in various forms of election malpractices at varying degrees which were inimical to the advancement of our electoral system.”

Elusoji, however, asked the President to focus more on good governance, rule of law and pursue the challenge of unifying the nation, as he reminded the President that people were worried about the security situation, rampant killing, Boko Haram and Fulani herdsmen challenges.

Furthermore, he advised the President to wage honest war against corruption and looting of public fund without special favour, saying Nigerians wanted to see convictions of people that committed fraud irrespective of their political party affiliation.

“It is important to note that your administration made some in-road in blocking leakages within the system through the implementation of TSA initiated by the previous administration, however, a lot still need to be done. It is also necessary to significantly reduce the cost of governance in every ramification particularly the legislative arms of the government.”

Following the successful outcome of the ElectionEye initiative, Elusoji said the NDF is set to deploy more robust solutions that will empower the citizenry to contribute meaningfully and facilitate good governance, accountability and rule of law in our society.

He said, “we created the Nigeria of today and we must seek solution, provide practical suggestions, work for the good of the nation and be positive about our country,” adding that the faith of our country was in our hands, and no foreigner would love Nigeria more than Nigerians. “Let us work to create a new nation,” he said.

Also, Elusoji advised the President to fast track the Diaspora Voting Bill to enable over 20 million Nigerians in The Diaspora, whose financial contributions through fund remittance, play a very crucial role in “sustaining the economy of our nation.”

He said the newly created Diaspora Commission chaired by Hon. Abike Dabiri has a great work to do in unifying Nigerians in the global community.

According to Elusoji, the Nigerian Diaspora Foundation (NDF) was launched in the city of Chicago, USA on November 10, 2018, to create a platform for Nigerians to collaborate, share opinion and work for the common good of our nation.

He said the NDF is an umbrella for all Nigerians both at home and overseas with a mission to rebuild and create a nation free of religious, ethnical, and regional hindrances.
