post-UTME screening

No fewer than 45,134 candidates seeking admission into the University of Ilorin in the 2019/2020 academic session participated last week in the institution’s post-UTME screening that held simultaneously in two centres – Ilorin and Lagos – between last Monday and Thursday.

Statistics obtained from the Computer Services and Information Technology Centre (COMSIT) of the university last indicated that out of the 45,134 candidates that registered for the screening exercise, 32, 962 appeared at the Ilorin Centre while 12, 172 appeared at the Lagos Centre.

About 105, 058 candidates made the University of Ilorin their first choice institution in the last JAMB-moderated UTME, making the institution to emerge once again the most preferred University by admission seekers for the sixth consecutive year, according to statistics released by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) during its 19th Admission Policy meeting at Gbongan, Osun State.

Speaking with the Chairman of the University Admission Committee, Prof. Oba Toyin Mustapha, he expressed satisfaction with the screening exercise, which was generally peaceful and hitch-free.

Prof. Mustapha attributed the peaceful and smooth conduct of the UTME exercise to “proper planning and diligent personnel”.

The Admission Committee Chairman said that the authority of the University had mapped out proper planning ahead of the exercise to ensure a rancour-free post UTME screening both at Ilorin and Lagos Centers.

Prof. Mustapha commended the University management and the COMSIT for taking the bull by the horns through proper planning, which he said has brought considerable decorum into the exercise.

Also speaking, the outgoing Director of the Computer Services and Information Technology Center (COMSIT), University of Ilorin, Prof. Mudathir Yusuf, said that the screening exercise was very peaceful and smooth.

He, however, advised candidates to be wary of 419ners who are now generating website name to lure unsuspecting candidates to log in and pay into a wrong account, saying that Unilorin website name still remains www.unilorin.edu.ng.

He pointed out that any candidate that logs into account different from the above website address, does that at his/her own risk.

Prof. Yusuf explained that some pockets of challenges recorded during the exercise have been adequately addressed, pointing out that there were records of criminal cases like impersonation, and double attempts, among others.

Also speaking, the Deputy Chief Security Officer of the University of Ilorin, Mr Wasiu Oyewo, said that there was no case of security breach throughout the screening exercise.

Mr Oyewo explained that his men were fully on ground to ensure that the exercise went on peacefully without any hitch.
