Lagos Health Summit (LHS), in partnership with EventHive, is set to hold the maiden edition of the virtual Lagos Health Summit & Exhibition conference scheduled for September 29-30, 2020.

According to the organisers, the Lagos Health Summit is a virtual event that will gather industry experts and decision-makers in the health sector with the aim of addressing key developmental issues in the sector.

“A foremost gathering which is focused on addressing key developmental issues within the health sector in Nigeria and beyond with a view to fostering sustainable development, the summit will provide a platform to meet and network with healthcare experts, leaders, government authorities to interact, strategize and share major insights concerning the Nigerian health sector, as well as proffer pragmatic solutions to these issues”, LHS organising committee said.

Tagged “ The Role of Health Insurance Scheme in the Delivery of Quality Healthcare”, the two-day virtual conference on a secured video conferencing is expected to be attended by federal and state governments’ MDAs, star-ups and venture capitalists, health insurance providers, associations and bodies, as well as scholars from the academia and research institutions.

Others expected at the event include hospitals, diagnostic centres, pharmaceuticals; health insurance plan users and prospective members; health tech and IT companies, and federal and state lawmakers.

Before the coronavirus pandemic, the nation’s healthcare sector had been plagued by a number of challenges such as inadequate remunerations for healthcare workers, lack of equipment, among others, to such an extent that Nigerian health workers left in droves to Europe, Americas and Asia. Just recently, it was reported that about 58 Nigerian doctors were prevented from traveling to the United Kingdom in search of greener pastures thus further worsening the brain drain in the sector.

Apart from that, the absence of a comprehensive and affordable healthcare insurance scheme has contributed to the worsening healthcare statistics in Nigeria and the forthcoming virtual conference is meant to address some of the perennial problems.

“As we traverse this unprecedented time, it is imperative that we adopt technological advancement in organising fronts that will produce ingenious strategies and progressive ideas in developing the health sector. The summit will also provide a platform to amplify conversation on emerging innovation in the health insurance scheme with key emphasis on the future of funding and delivery of quality healthcare services in the country”, LHS said.
