Jos attacks: Yari leads 11 govs on condolence visit

Abubakar YariGOVERNOR Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara State on Friday led a delegation of 11 other Nigerian governors on a condolence visit to Plateau State to condole with the government over the recent attacks in the state.

This was contained in a statement issued to the Saturday Tribune on Friday and signed by the governor’s media aide, Ibrahim Dosara.

Yari who is also the Chairman of other Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) condemned in strongest terms, the callous and barbaric act perpetrated on the innocent citizens of the state, saying, those behind this dastardly act should not go unpunished.

The governors also expressed concern over the spate of attacks and killings of innocent citizens in various parts of the country and called for the restructuring of a security system in the country to check the incessant murder of people in various communities across the nation.

Delivering the condolences of the forum’s members, Gov Yari said the delegation was in the state to sympathize with Governor Lalong, government and the good people of Plateau State over the incident and pledged to always be behind the Gov, the government and the people of Plateau State to ensure peace is restored and maintained.

He said the perpetrators of such evil are now all over the country and urged the security operators to be up and doing in ensuring the protection of lives and property in all the nooks and cranny of the country.

“They are in Zamfara, Benue, Borno, Adamawa, Taraba, Yobe, Kaduna, Kogi, Kwara, Sokoto, Kebbi in every committing atrocities, killing innocent people. We must, therefore, take more measures to deal with them”, the NGF Chairman said.

Gov Yari who said he is currently facing the trauma of the attackers and killers of innocent people n his state said from January to date, he lost over 400 people to such attacks, adding that, at one time in the past he lost over 200 people in one day.

He said as responsible leaders, they have to take responsibility, rather than shifting blames.

He said all the 36 Governors would soon meet with the security chiefs and deliberate on the terrible state of insecurity in the country to work out modalities of handling the situation.

He said the spate of attacks and killings all over the country calls for serious concerns and pledged that the NGF would be solidly behind the President in his new derive to tackle insecurity in the country.

Gov Yari on behalf of all the 36 state Governors condoled the gov, the government and the people of Plateau State over the loss of those killed in the attacks and prayed for their rest in peace.

Also speaking, the Chairman of Progressives Governors Forum and Imo State Gov Rochas Okoocha, urged the people of the state to remain calm and make peace with one another and described the act as inhuman, madness and evil and called for action in identifying the perpetrators of the act with a view to bringing them to justice.

Responding, Gov Samuel Lalong thanked the NGF and the Chairman, especially for hard work, commitment and determination in fostering the unity of the nation by bringing the Governors together in all issues of national importance.

He said the visit has given him a source of courage and inspiration and pledged to work hard to fish out all those involved in the act.

Those on the visit included Govs Tambuwal of Sokoto, Rochas Okorocha of Imo, Abubakar Mohammed of Bauchi, Samuel Orton and Okowa of Delta, others are the Deputy govs of Oyo, Ondo, Edo and Kaduna.
