COVAX vaccine

Nigeria alongside other African countries will begin to receive vaccine doses pledged to Africa under the COVAX facility by June, Matshidiso Moeti, regional director for Africa, World Health Organisation, said on Thursday.

The first tranche of the 600 million doses are expected to arrive by the end of March with a larger rollout to start by June, the director said during a press briefing online.

Together with the 270 million doses that the African Union plans to secure, the organisation anticipates delivery of nearly 900 million doses to the continent for 2021, although it admits more will be required.

This means part of the 42 million doses of vaccines Nigeria expects under COVAX agreements could begin flow in from April.
