BREAKING: Military Aircraft Crashes In Abuja Airport

A military aircraft has crashed a few yards off the runway at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport in Abuja. 

In a tweet on Sunday, Hadi Sirika, the minister of aviation confirmed the incident.

The minister tweeted: “A military aircraft King Air 350 has just crashed short of our Abuja runway after reporting engine failure en-route Minna.

“It appears to be fatal. We should remain calm & wait for the outcome of an investigation by the military, while we pray for the departed soul/souls if any.”

As of the time of filing this report, authorities of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) were yet to make statements, however, the military has given a response in reaction to the ugly incident. 

In a statement via his official Twitter page, Nigerian Air Force (NAF) spokesman, Air Vice Marshal Ibikunle Daramola stated that the Beechcraft KingAir B350i aircraft crashed while returning to the Abuja Airport, adding that all 7 personnel on board died in the crash.

Mr Daramola further stated that the Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Vice Marshal Oladayo Amao has ordered an immediate investigation into the accident. 

While urging the general public to remain calm and await the outcome of the investigation, the CAS, on behalf of all Nigerian Air Force personnel, commiserated with the families of the deceased.
