PDP-logoFOLLOWING the alleged assault on Ekiti State governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose, Lagos State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Friday petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, demanding an immediate investigation into the act.

The party, in its petition, described the alleged act perpetrated against Governor Fayose as unconstitutional, saying it must be probed to prevent the future occurrence in the country especially during 2019 election.

Chairman of the party, Hon. Moshood Salvador disclosed this latest move at the press conference that took place at PDP secretariat, Sogunle, Ikeja GRA.

The party boss contended that it negated the democratic principles President Muhammadu Buhari sworn to protect for the law enforcement officers to have barricaded the entrance to Government House in Ado-Ekiti and tear gassed the governor and his supporters.

“It is very pathetic that a governor was molested by security operatives. This singular act is condemnable and unacceptable in any civilised environment. We expect the IGP to investigate this and bring the perpetrators to book as soon as possible,” Salvador said.

Salvador maintained that the governor remained a must heard voice in the country’s political arena, saying it was the reason people expected President Buhari, who is the father of all, to ensure that the present political landscape wasn’t baselessly heated up.

The party boss said after the investigation, should the officers involved be found culpable, the police should not hesitate to apologise to the governor for the act perpetrated by its men deployed to Ekiti for the poll.

PDP chairman, while appealing to agencies drafted to ensure peaceful conduct of Ekiti poll, stressed that Buhari, as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed forces, must ensure that the exercise wasn’t turned into a do or die affair.

“The various agencies in the state must ensure that they work without sentiments. This is our appeal and we will appreciate if it is addressed immediately,” he said.
