A 28-year old man on Tuesday, narrowly escaped being lynched by angry mob over alleged sexual abuse with a yet-to-be identified male student at Fegge, Onitsha, Anambra State.

The suspected homosexual, identified as Anthony Esimoneze, was reportedly caught naked in the act with the student in a mechanic workshop in the area.

TribuneOnline reliably gathered that the suspects were sighted by a female food vendor who went to ease herself at a corner of the mechanic workshop.

A resident of the area, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the student took to his heel immediately he saw the woman, while his accomplice was unlucky to have escaped.

“As soon as she saw them, she alerted the neighbours and passers-by, but the student quickly ran away before they came.

“Esimoneze was not lucky as he was immediately caught by the neighbours and the passers-by after identifying him as a serial homosexual, who had severally been caught and beaten.

The resident who said the suspect had pleaded for leniency while being dragged by the angry mob armed with used tyres to where he was to be set ablaze alive, however said the plea fell on deaf ears.

“But while they were heading to the slaughter arena, some youths emerged from nowhere and demanded from the suspect why he was being assaulted.

“He confessed to have committed the crime and blamed it on the devil. He however promised not do it again,” he added.

TribuneOnline however learnt that the suspect suddenly escaped while a heated argument ensued between the mob and the other youths that came to his rescue.

Efforts to get the reaction of the State Police spokesperson, SP Haruna Mohammed was unsuccessful as he did not respond to both calls and texts messages sent to his phone as at press time.
