Enugu gov. embarks on court constructions in 3 senatorial zones

Enugu state government has embarked on the construction of 14 new court buildings and open registries for judicial divisions and magisterial districts across the three senatorial zones in the state.

The governor of Enugu state Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi made this known during the flag off/ground breaking ceremony for the construction of two new court buildings of eight courtrooms each and an open registry for magisterial districts in Awgu Local government Area.
The governor who was represented by the state commissioner for information Ogbuagu Anikwe noted that other local governments that would benefit from the new facilities includes Enugu North, Enugu South, Enugu East, Nsukka, Nkanu East, Nkanu West, Oji River, Igboeze North, Igboeze South, Uzo-Uwani and Isi-Uzo LGAs.
According to him the infrastructure revolution in the judiciary, the first time in eleven years was to create conducive environment for effective administration and dispensation of justice in the state through provision of suitable infrastructure and essential tools.
“We recall also that, in collaboration with our development partners, we have previously carried out construction and rehabilitation of court buildings and the provision of essential equipment to some units of the courts across the state” he said.
He further expressed hope that the measures would help to enhance the dignity of the state judiciary and promote efficiency.
He reiterated the government resolve to do all that would be necessary to ensure that judiciary in Enugu is not just suitable empowered to deliver its mandate as an independent arm, but also ranks among the best in the country.

Earlier the chief judge of Enugu state Justice N. P. Emehelu commended the Enugu state governor, saying that the ground breaking was part of series of projects conceived by the executive Governor towards massive infrastructure developments in the judiciary.

According to the chief judge who was represented by Justice Ruben Onuorah, the present government had constructed new model high courts and magistrates’ court buildings in various judicial divisions and magisterial districts in the state to reposition the judiciary and place it on a very high pedestal.

“I must say that the judiciary of Enugu state has never had it so good and we are indeed very grateful to the executive Governor his Excellency Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Ifeanyi Lawrence Ugwuanyi for these laudable projects”.
She said that the judiciary are committed to putting the facilities to good use, that the judges and learned magistrates would now maximise their potentials and the society would be better for it.

Emehelu, however called on the chairmen of various local government areas in the state to assist in the renovation of existing court buildings in their areas which are dilapidated and even erect new ones to complement the efforts of the government in bringing development and justice closer to the door steps of the people of Enugu state. The Chairman of Awgu Local government Stanly Okeke represented by his deputy Benedeth Ojiude expressed happiness and promised to collaborate with the contractor to ensure the completion of the project.

Also the Enugu state commissioner for work Greg Nnaji represented by David Okpeh, who is deputy director construction and materials, in the ministry of works who’s ministry designed the building and the contractor, Ndubuisi Menekaya said they wouldn’t encounter any challenge in completing the project within three months because it is cash backed.
