As the internal crisis rocking the Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) continues, some members of the Edo South senatorial district of the party on Friday passed a vote of implicit confidence on the leader of the party, governor Godwin Obaseki.

The members, in a six-point communiqué issued at the end of its stakeholders’ meeting in Benin City, also passed a vote of confidence on the state deputy governor, Philip Shaibu and the Secretary to the State Government, Osarodion Ogie.

The communique, which was read by its secretary, Wilson Evbuomwan, unanimously supported the immediate integration of new entrants into the executive committees of the party at all levels, noting that the development will result to peaceful co-existence of all the party members and pave way for the development of Edo State.

It also observed that the ugly incident of the letter that was sent to the national chairman of the party by some members of the state working committee asking for the exclusion of a large segment of party members from the ward, local government areas and the state working committee would have been avoided, if the senator Mathew Urhoghide-led harmonization committee had commenced its assignment.

“There would have been no need of the recent letter that was sent by the State Working Committee to the national leadership of the party, if the harmonization committee, led by Senator Matthew Urhoghide, was allowed to commence its assignment towards the integration and peaceful coexistence of all PDP members.

It disclosed that a disciplinary committee would be set up to investigate and recommend appropriate disciplinary measures against any person found frustrating the activities of the harmonization committee in Edo south senatorial district of the party.

The communiqué, however, affirmed Wilson Evbuomwan as the elected secretary of the Edo South senatorial district of the party.

The meeting was attended by members across the seven local government councils that constitute the senatorial district.
