All cases of human rights abuse under review ― DSS boss

DSSTHE new Director General of the Department of State Services, DSS, Mr Mathew Seiyeda, has disclosed that all cases of human rights abuse including illegal detention disobedience to lawful court orders and intimidation of innocent people amongst others by the Agency in the past were now being reviewed.

Seiyefa who disclosed this in Abuja at his maiden interactive session with newsmen declared that the decision became necessary in order to correct and tidy the wrongdoings of the past which were not in line with the practice of democratic rules.

He explained that in this era of growing political activities ahead of the 2019 general elections, there would be various contending issues and interests but the Service would not shark in its responsibility of identifying and protecting the National interest rather those of individuals, organizations or groups at all times.

He also assured to work and collaborate with other Security Agencies as well as the Press in ensuring that there was peace in the country where the citizens and the Foreign Nationals alike would be adequately protected.

The new DSS boss who said that he had met with the Personnel of the Agency to brief them about the new direction he would want them to face and the need for them to know that the Agency had to change from their past ‎stated that all these steps were being taken in order for them to gain and enjoy the confidence of the Public.
