The Presidency says it is aware of an audio recording in which Leah Sharibu, the remaining Dapchi schoolgirl held captive by a faction of the Boko Haram, appeals to President Muhammadu Buhari to help free her.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Garba Shehu, revealed this via his Twitter handle on Monday after the recording was exclusively published by online media organisation, TheCable.

According to Shehu, the Department of State Services (DSS) is investigating the clip and the Federal Government will work on the outcome of the investigation.

In the audio clip, the 15-year-old said in Hausa, “I am Leah Sharibu, the girl that was abducted in GGSS Dapchi. I am calling on the government, particularly, the President to pity me and get me out of this serious situation.”

“I also plead to the members of the public to help my mother, my father, my younger brother and relatives. Kindly help me out of my predicament. I am calling on the government and people of goodwill to intervene to get me out of my current situation. I am begging you to treat me with compassion.”

Leah has been in captivity after the insurgents invaded and abducted over 100 students from the Government Girls Secondary School, Dapchi in Yobe State in February.

The terrorists kept her in captivity allegedly for refusing to renounce Christianity.
