AkintolaThe Osun State Governorship Candidate of the Alliance for Democracy in the forthcoming Gubernatorial election slated for September 22, 2018, Mr Olugbenga Akintola, had revealed the major motivation behind his ambition to become the incumbent governor of the State at the expiration of this present dispensation.

Mr Akintola, an architect by profession, who was at the just concluded Osun-Osogbo festival, told newsmen at the event that he noticed that the development of Osun State has been in ‘Arithmetic’ progression whereas the State could be at par with other states whose development is in Geometrical progression.

Just like what the sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, of the defunct Western Region and late Cicero of Ijebu Jesha, Chief Bola Ige, of the old Oyo State did for the people when they were in power, the soft-spoken architect whose professionalism was highly sought after both in Lagos and Oyo State, saw to the physical transformation of Lagos State during the Babatunde Fashola regime as the erstwhile incumbent governor of the state and Governor Isiaka Ajimobi and said he will surely build on various legacies left by Chief Awolowo and Chief Bola Ige especially in the area of sound and quality education for the Osun State indigenes as well as make sure that dividends of democracy are a right of the masses to enjoy in the State of  the living spring.

“I think it is something I will summarise or call constructive criticism when it comes to the situation on the ground right now. I was opportune to go to school in this part of the old Western or Oyo State where I enjoyed quality elementary education to tertiary level for over 20 years. I was young but I witnessed how the state was when Papa Awolowo was at the helm of affairs and what it used to be when Chief Bola Ige was in power as far as the education system was within their jurisdictions, which were free in their time and I would like to build upon their legacies for this generation too.

In terms of road networks or quality education, people still mention those roads constructed by Awolowo or schools built by Bola Ige. But now, what you see is in contrast to their legacies left behind. Yes, the current government has done its bits. There are some good things they have done. However, the rate at which this development is being done could be referred to as ‘Arithmetical’ progression, but what we need is actually a ‘Geometrical’ progression of the state  because most of the potentials we are blessed with are not fully tapped, harnessed and developed in the right direction that it is should be.

People complain about the debt situation of the State, that is why we designed an ‘Economic Agenda’ which we believe will eliminate public debt burden, revitalise the economy as well as attract private investors in all ramifications of governance of Osun State.

We are much aware of the various complain by the people about the quality of the state’s educational system, the qualities of both the infrastructures built and the general health situation in the state and I must confess that majority of the populace are not happy.

These are the reasons we are ready to give smiles back to the society under the platform of the Progressive, the Alliance for Democracy who I believe is a transformation of Papa Awolowo’s Action Group. Going down memory lane, we all we remember how Alliance for Democracy brought smiles to the faces of millions of our people when we came into power in the entire South Western part of Nigeria between 1999 to 2003 and right now, we have come to fix what we believe has been destroyed between 2004 till date with our campaign slogan being ‘Atunse 2018’.
